Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham revolution will start at the back this summer – as the Portuguese plans to rip up his ageing defence and fill it with a potential £120million injection of youth and pace.
The Spurs manager has targeted Benfica’s Portugal international Ruben Dias as one of the top class centre-backs he wants – and Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake is another target.
Tottenham are also interested in Norwich’s talented 20-year-old full-back Max Aarons and will make a £15million move in the summer – and Nice’s Youcef Atal, at 24 is another who could figure at around £25m. Leicester’s Ben Chilwell is also being monitored.
With Toby Alderweireld now 30, and Jan Vertonghen – whose contract runs out this summer – 32, Mourinho wants more youth in his side to come through alongside talented youngsters like Japhet Tanganga and Ryan Sessegnon.
Liverpool and Manchester City are both also interested in Dias, who has 16 caps for his country at the age of 22 – but the centre-back signed new deal with Benfica in November which included a buy out clause of around £80m which may prove a stumbling block for Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

Transfer news LIVE: Coutinho has been tipped to return to England
Liverpool failed with a bid for Samuel Chukwueze in January.
France Football claim Villarreal rejected the offer from the Reds before the transfer window shut.
It’s suggested the Premier League leaders offered £30million for the talented Nigeria winger, who has scored four goals and provided four assists this season.
The 20-year-old has also received interest from Chelsea and is reported to have a £55m release clause in his current contract, that expires in 2023.
Transfer news LIVE: Arsenal manager Arteta has identified Maddison as a priority signing
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has identified Manchester United transfer target James Maddison as a priority signing.
The Gunners made a couple of loan signings in the January transfer window, with Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares heading to the Emirates. Arsenal are hoping for a busy summer window as Arteta looks to bring in players to suit his system.
And according to the Daily Mail, Arteta has identified Leicester star Maddison and Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard as top transfer targets.
They say Arsenal will battle with United for the playmaker this summer.
However, Maddison is set to sign a bumper new contract at Leicester, which further strengthens the Foxes’ position in transfer negotiations.
Maddison is a long-term target for Arsenal’s top four rivals United, however, the Red Devils could turn their attention to Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish.
Chelsea eye Kepa replacement
Chelsea is the most likely destination for Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana, Goal say.
The Cameroon international would prefer a move to west London ahead of a number of other top European clubs that are tracking the 23-year-old.
Tottenham, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are all interested in signing Onana.
But, with a place up-for-grabs at Stamford Bridge, the Cameroon international is interested in the move.
Blues boss Frank Lampard is keen to offload Kepa Arrizabalaga this summer.
