  • ‘Prince Harry’ has been spotted at Oxford ahead of their play off semi final
  • Some clubs have put cardboard cut outs of fans in the stands for their games
  • And fans have paid £25 to put a cut out of Prince Harry at Kassam Stadium
  • The Prince resides in Los Angeles but will be ‘watching’ tonight’s big game

It’s the trend that has swept the nation since football’s restart, and eagle-eyed fans have spotted another famous face in unfamiliar surroundings as ‘Prince Harry‘ was seen at Oxford’s Kassam Stadium on Monday night.

The resumption of the football season has seen games played behind closed doors as a result of health risks associated with having fans in the grounds during the coronavirus pandemic.

Some clubs have attempted to ensure that supporters feel as close to the action as possible by putting cardboard cut outs of fans in their usual seats, providing a better aesthetic for those watching at home.

But some fans have viewed the plans as an opportunity to put famous faces in unusual surroundings, with Leeds United having to remove a cardboard cut out of Osama Bin Laden and Joe Exotic while a cardboard cutout of government adviser Dominic Cummings was spotted at a rugby match in Australia in May.

And Prince Harry is the latest famous face to be imposed on a cardboard cutout at a sporting contest, as the Duke of Sussex was seen in the crowd at Kassam Stadium for Oxford’s League One play-off semi final against Portsmouth.

The Prince, who currently resides in Los Angeles with wife Meghan Markle, is a patron of the Rugby Football League while his brother, Prince William, is the president of the Football Association.

The Duke of Sussex will be ‘watching on’ as Karl Robinson’s side, who finished fourth in the league, take on Kenny Jackett’s Pompey for a chance to play at Wembley to gain promotion to the Championship.

Oxford’s ‘Fans at the Game’ initiative allows supporters to pay £25 to ensure their cardboard cut out is in attendance for the play off semi final first leg.
