Nemanja Matic ‘given extra coaching sessions to improve the attacking side of his game’ after regaining his place as a key part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United midfield

Manchester United‘s Nemanja Matic has reportedly been given extra coaching sessions designed to improve the attacking side of his game.

The 31-year-old holding midfielder has become a key figure for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in recent months after struggling for game time during the first half of the 2019-20 campaign.

Before training at United’s Carrington complex was cancelled due to coronavirus, Solskjaer instructed coaches to work with Matic on his own, according to The Athletic, as reported by Metro.

Several players including Matic were reportedly asked to carry out extra 20-30 minute sessions.

The Serbia international was rewarded for his recent good form with a contract extension earlier this week.

United triggered the clause in Matic’s contract to extend his current deal by a year.

The midfielder had just over three months left on his contract but United have opted to extend his stay until at least 2021.

Matic had looked destined to leave United in the summer with several clubs around Europe, including Inter Milan, waiting to sign him on a free.

The club are exploring the possibility of handing the midfielder an even longer deal and talks are ongoing at the moment.
