John Lewis joins the instagram generation with a personalised fashion-advice service

John Lewis is trialling a personalised fashion advice service on Instagram to try and bring shoppers back to its department stores.

Shoppers will be able to book a 15 to 30-minute video call on the social media site to be given ideas on how to freshen up their wardrobe.

There will be three consultations available: Seasonal staples; Upcycling wardrobe favourites into a new outfit; and Fashion SOS, for those who need an outfit in a hurry.

After the consultation a series of links to clothes they liked will be sent by email to the customers, allowing them to buy online or pick up in store.

The service is being tested with some female customers and, if successful, will be rolled out to everyone, including men, later this year.

The department store chain already provides a personal styling service in some of its shops, which offer fashion talks to try and lure shoppers.

John Lewis is fighting for its life after posting a dire set of annual results last week with profits plunging to their lowest level at £146million, down from £452million three years ago.
